Football fanatic

Ethan has been bitten by the football bug. While he doesn’t really have the patience to actually watch more than a few minutes at a time, he studiously keeps track of all the scores, who has won against who, and who is quarterback of each team. And every morning, if there was a game that ended after he went to bed, John has to look up the score so Ethan can add it to his mental database.

But what Ethan really likes to do is play football. Now that we’ve moved one of the couches downstairs, he has lots of room to run around in the family room upstairs.

Ideally, Ethan likes to have John (preferably) or I play with him. This involves running back and forth between Ethan’s bedroom and the couch (the two end zones), while providing a running commentary and trying to two-hand touch “tackle” each other. If we’re too tired to continue to run, he will play by himself as long as we provide the continued commentary.

John and Ethan also will play “Pre-Game Show” where they sit side-by-side on the couch and talk about the different teams. It’s very cute to listen to them go.

Of course, for the non-football obsessed around (i.e., me), keeping up with the running commentary can be challenging. But it is getting me some good exercise.
