For Father’s Day, Ethan and I bought John a hammock and stand. We have had a hammock for years, but it’s too long for the stand we had. John loves to have a hammock to lounge in, and has lamented the inability to use his for several years now, so we thought it would be a good gift.
On Father’s Day morning, I popped into Ethan’s bedroom to remind him to make a card for John. His response was, “Oh. I need to make something for Dad.” I reminded him that we had gotten the hammock, but he insisted on making something as well.
What he came up with was a spa afternoon for John. As soon as John got Colin down for his afternoon nap, Ethan ordered him to report to Ethan’s bedroom for phase one of the spa treatment — which involved a massage and some time spent laying on the massage mat we have. During this, Ethan played relaxing sounds on his white noise machine.
From here, he took John down for a bath (with Epsom salts), during which Ethan gave John a foot scrub with pumice to get rid of his callouses, and scrubbed his back and arms to get rid of the dead skin. After John’s bath (and Ethan’s morning routine of lotions, hair gels and oils), Ethan then led John out to the yard and made him relax in the hammock for a while.
It was very cute, the thoughtfulness Ethan put into his choice of gift for Father’s Day. He is such a great boy, our Ethan.
