Friends ARE Fun

About three weeks ago, Ethan suddenly discovered the joy of friends. It happened overnight. One day after school he was doing his own thing on the playground, quite content to watch the other kids playing, and the next he was running from group to group, participating in everything. And he is SOOO excited.

So now, every day is filled with stories about the big store he and Andrew built from Legos at school, and how Leo knocked it down. Or requests to go over to someone’s house for a playdate after school, or to have someone over to our house.

And most importantly, Ethan has rediscovered Kai. After spending four years more or less oblivious to the potential of having a friend two doors down who is exactly the same age, we're now reveling in it. Every night after dinner I hear, “Can Kai come over to our house?” “Can we go see if Kai is outside?” “Can Kai and I build roads in the yard again?”

It is, of course, ironic that he has discovered all of the fun neighborhood friends as we’re on the verge of leaving the neighborhood. But it’s fun to watch this new part of his personality develop. (He’s quite the social director when he’s playing with his friends.)
